Midlife Transition - A Spiritual Experience

Many of us have probably heard the quote that Wayne Dyer made popular. It was actually said by the Catholic priest/theologian Teilhard de Chardin:

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience"

What I believe

Midlife Transition - A Spiritual Experience

This may sound shocking - but I don't agree. I propose that we are spiritual beings having a spiritual experience. In fact, I believe that EVERYTHING is consciousness. Our scientists are telling us today that this is true. That what we see is our own projection. There are many books being written on this today.

So, I have come to see that, in particular, the midlife transition is a spiritual event. And if we haven't already started pondering the big questions, we begin to experience what has been traditionally called "midlife Crisis". It's really our spirits calling out and saying to us - Go deeper; Find out who you REALLY are. It's time to wake up to the Truth of your being.

Have you heard the call?

Have you had a spiritual 'wake-up call' lately? Maybe you have had an illness or have come through an addiction? Or maybe you've heard of a number of people your own age who are dying? Is it making you think about your own life? Or maybe you have continually ponder the meaning of life:

Who am I?

Why am I here?

What's my purpose?

Is there really a God?

If so, who or what is it?

It's as though your soul is telling you there is so much more to life than you have experienced so far. If so, you are not alone. Most people ponder the 'big life questions' when they come to their middle years. There have been studies that show that this is even more prevalent in men than in women. Perhaps because women are more openly spiritual from an earlier age. Depending on what you do when these questions come up, the second half of your life can truly exciting, fulfilling and deeply peaceful. You can truly learn that 'all is well' and that life is so much more than what you experience. Or, you can choose the 'crisis' of meaning which is accompanied by boredom and depression.

Finding a Spiritual Solution

Wayne Dyer wrote a book called, "There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem". I recommend that book - and I especially recommend that you ponder what that means for your own life. I'm not talking about religion, here. Although those who are deeply involved in their own religion, often come to spiritual awakening in midlife as well. Find companions on the journey. Find a mentor or coach. Spend more time going within. This time is so precious and can be an opening to the best years yet.
